Hi everyone,

“There is nothing holding you back in life more than yourself.” – Brianna Wiest

I hate that this quote is true. Because it would be so much easier if we could blame external factors, wouldn’t it? The difficult partner. The unsupportive boss. The system that wasn’t built for us.

And yes – those things are real. They exist. They matter.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth I’ve watched play out hundreds of times in our community:

Today, I’m Grateful for You

Maya Angelou once said: “The ship of my life may or may not be sailing on calm and amiable seas. The challenging days of my existence may or may not be bright and promising. Stormy or sunny days, glorious or lonely nights, I maintain an attitude of gratitude.”

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States. And while not all of us celebrate this holiday, the heart of it, gratitude, is something I’ve been thinking about all week.

So I want to take a moment to say something simple and true: Thank you.

Thank you for showing up.

Four years ago, Women in Law was just an idea and a WhatsApp group. Today, we’re 600+ strong because of you. Because you believed this community was worth your time. Because you kept coming back.

Thank you for lifting each other up.

I’ve watched you celebrate each other’s promotions, new jobs, and career milestones like they were your own victories. I’ve seen you share opportunities, make introductions, and open doors for women you’ve never even met in person.

That’s not networking. That’s sisterhood.

Thank you for creating a safe space.

You’ve shared your struggles with imposter syndrome, your frustrations with being the only woman in the room, your questions about negotiating salary, your fears about career transitions. You’ve been vulnerable. And in doing so, you’ve given others permission to be vulnerable too.

That takes courage.

Thank you for your contributions.

Every question you’ve asked in our events. Every insight you’ve shared in our discussions. Every time you’ve shown up to a workshop or webinar. Every member you’ve invited to join us. Every story you’ve told that made another woman feel less alone.

You didn’t have to do any of that. But you did.

Here’s What I Know

There will always be law firms where we’re outnumbered. There will always be negotiations where we have to work twice as hard to be taken half as seriously. There will always be days when the seas aren’t calm.

But we don’t have to sail those seas alone.

This community exists because 600+ women decided that lifting each other up matters more than competing with each other. That empowering other women doesn’t diminish our own success. That creating space for honest conversations about the real challenges we face is worth the discomfort.

You’ve built something rare here. A place where ambition and vulnerability can coexist. Where we can be excellent lawyers and ask for help. Where we can pursue partnership and admit we’re struggling. Where success doesn’t mean pretending we have it all figured out.

Today, I’m Grateful

For every woman in this community who has:

  • Answered a question from a junior lawyer
  • Shared a resource that helped someone else
  • Attended an event even when you were exhausted
  • Introduced two women who needed to know each other
  • Spoken up when someone needed an ally
  • Simply been present

You are the reason this community works.

So on this Thanksgiving, whether you celebrate the holiday or not, I want you to know: you are seen. Your contributions matter. And I am deeply grateful that you’re here.

The ship may not always sail on calm seas. But we’re sailing it together.

And that makes all the difference.

With gratitude and respect,
